Minnesota Microphone is less than nonprofit; MN Mic is currently run on love and pocket change by Cole Sarar and other charitable writers, photographers, and videographers. There have been only two financial donations towards MN Mic as of February 2010, but lots of time, by our “staff” of volunteer writers and artists.
MN Mic Staff:

Cole Sarar Executive Editor
Cole started MN Mic in December of 2008, because she wanted a place where she could find information about things going on in spoken word in Minnesota, and was frustrated to find very little on the web. “I’ll do it, then.” was the motto, which perhaps was more than she’d anticipated as someone who’d been doing spoken word for less than a year.
Cole has been writing and making photographs for many years, and at one time coordinated a monthly meeting of friends with artistic leanings, to drink wine and take in one another’s works. Cole has an English Literature degree from Macalester college, and worked for the Minnesota Center for Photography until its untimely close in 2008.
Cole runs MN Mic: writing, photographing, filming, interviewing, copyediting, and web editing. Cole has been doing slam poetry for about six months longer than she’s been doing MN Mic, and is still learning the ropes. She won the people’s choice award for Best New Spoken Word Artist at the 2009 Urban Griots Spoken Word Awards, and represented Minneapolis in the 2009 Women of the World Poetry Slam. Cole has been selected to receive a Minnesota State Arts Board grant to go on tour in the autumn of 2010. She’s currently putting together her first chapbook of poetry, entitled “Army of Nursery Rhymes”, which will come out soon.
